Scott McTominay should join West Ham United over Newcastle this January despite the Magpies’ links to the midfielder. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider<\/strong>, former Hammers and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie claimed he would be “concerned” if the Man United midfielder moved to Tyneside but believed he would remain in Manchester. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scotsman has been in and out of Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup this season, but with three goals in his last two Premier League appearances, he is making a case for a bigger role at Old Trafford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newcastle reportedly<\/a> want McTominay this January to help plug the gap after Sandro Tonali’s 10-month ban from breaking gambling restrictions, with Eddie Howe a big fan of the 26-year-old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Ham had a \u00a330million bid for McTominay rejected<\/a> by Man United this summer, but McAvennie claimed he’d “much rather” see him at the London Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If he’s a mainstay, no I don’t think [he’ll leave]. But I think Man United will bring players in with Casemiro, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen,”<\/em> he told Football Insider<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Steve Clarke’s turned this player into an attacking midfield player. He’s been playing as a holding midfield player but he’s not a holding midfield player. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He was never any good at it. He’s a good tackler but he’s not a great stopper. He’s moving forward and scoring goals. I’d be concerned if he went to Newcastle. I’d much rather he play at West Ham, he can do a brilliant job there, what a signing he would be”<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
