He was subject of a summer bid from West Ham, and held extensive talks over a potential move but a deal could not be agreed and he opted to remain in Manchester to fight for his place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He remains in Gareth Southgate&#8217;s squad and featured in England&#8217;s 3-1 victory over Scotland last month (12 September), but despite hoping his goal could be a &#8220;turning point&#8221;, McAvennie insisted the 30-year-old will need to play regularly to keep his place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;The weight on his shoulders at Man United, it&#8217;s a big weight.
