Darwin Nunez scored for Liverpool and assisted another in a masterful team display as they walloped Toulouse 5-1 in the Europa League on Thursday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But not for the first time with the Uruguayan striker, a huge post-match talking post was an astonishing blunder that left the player red-faced and even supporters wondering what on earth they had just seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having already converted a much harder chance before the break, Nunez<\/a> shook off a defender and cruised past the goalkeeper following a lightning counter-attack to find himself with a completely open goal – but somehow directed his shot into the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately Nunez’s miss did not matter, as the ball ricocheted to the brilliant Ryan Gravenberch, who blasted it into the net to secure the home side’s fourth goal of the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the Uruguayan, who has scored five goals in all competitions this season, was even able to crack a half-smile at his own miss as he trotted over to congratulate his team-mate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it was nonetheless humiliating for Nunez, who had produced another display of vim and vigour but had again left the pitch when he was substituted trending on social media for negative rather than positive reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reaction from supporters was diverse, ranging from appreciation of the player’s all-round qualities to stunned disbelief at such a moment of ineptitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
