Newcastle United are one of several Premier League teams interested in Kalvin Phillips.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider<\/strong>, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton said Phillips<\/a> will struggle to break into the starting XI at St James’ Park but he will find it easier than he has at Man City. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 27-year-old’s current contract runs until 2028 after signing from Leeds United last summer but there is a growing consensus that he could depart in January. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 21 October, Football Insider<\/strong> revealed that the Magpies are plotting a January swoop for Phillips as they brace for a hefty ban to be landed on current midfielder Sandro Tonali.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hutton suggested the England international would be a great addition to Eddie Howe’s side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It has been difficult since he moved to Man City, he has found it hard to break into that team. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That is no sleight on him because they are one of the best teams out there so it is understandable. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There will be a lot of teams after him, especially if the price is right. Newcastle are definitely going in the right direction, under a manager who is going places. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think the team look very bright in midfield and I think he could add something to that, especially if they are going to be going for Champions League most years now – they need a squad capable of doing all the trophies. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is not going to be an easy task breaking into that team at Newcastle but I would like to think he would fancy his chances more than at Man City.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n
