Sir Jim Ratcliffe intends to expand Old Trafford\u2019s capacity to 90,000 when he takes majority control of Man United, Football Insider understands.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The British billionaire is in the driving seat of the takeover process at Man United after Qatar\u2019s Sheikh Jassim withdrew his bid this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jassim\u2019s bid was for 100 percent of the club’s shares, while Ratcliffe\u2019s latest proposal is for an initial 25 percent stake that will eventually see him grapple control from the Glazers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As revealed by Football Insider, <\/strong>Ratcliffe\u2019s latest bid would see him take majority control of the club in 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the 71-year-old has enough voting power to make decisions at the Manchester club, it is understood that his party wants to expand Old Trafford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His INEOS group wants to grow the capacity of the famous venue to around 90,000, extending its lead as the largest club stadium in England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United already posted the highest matchday revenue figures in the Premier League in their latest 2021\/22 accounts<\/a> with the club earning \u00a3111million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, an additional 15,000 seats added to the stadium would see that figure inflate significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expansion would also likely introduce more hospitality sectors around the stadium, which would grow matchday revenues further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Qatar bidders discussed the potential option of building an entirely new stadium, Ratcliffe’s party have decided that an expansion of the current ground is the best direction to take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
