&#8216;Banned for life&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Fans have taken to social media in droves after Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali was caught up in an investigation into illegal betting in Italian football\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As reported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2023\/oct\/12\/sandro-tonali-and-nicolo-zaniolo-leave-italy-training-camp-amid-investigation\">Guardian<\/a>, Tonali and teammate Nicolo Zaniolo were both taken out of Italy training on Thursday (12 October) after being informed of allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two Premier League stars are currently under investigation for betting and were told to go home from training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/sandro-tonali-has-phone-seized-by-police-in-italy-betting-inquiry-t5qcjwnp0\">The Times<\/a>, Tonali has since flown back to Newcastle via Milan after being left &#8216;on the verge of tears&#8217; by the accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Should the duo be found guilty of betting breaches, they could face a significant fine and a potential suspension from playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tonali made a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/football\/news\/11678\/12906819\/sandro-tonali-to-newcastle-magpies-announce-55m-signing-of-ac-milan-midfielder#:~:text=Newcastle%20have%20completed%20a%20%C2%A3,AC%20Milan%20midfielder%20Sandro%20Tonali.\">\u00a355million move<\/a> to St James&#8217;
