&#8211; Fans react to one thing James Maddison did against Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>England fans took to social media this week to mock James Maddison after the Tottenham midfielder struck a wayward shot in the friendly match against Australia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 26-year-old was named in the starting lineup for the Three Lions by Gareth Southgate on Friday (13 October) after enjoying a strong run of form with Spurs in the Premier League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maddison has registered two goals and five assists for Tottenham in eight league appearances after signing for the North London side from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, despite his club form this season, Maddison had a moment to forget in an England shirt on Friday after he cut inside from the left and struck a shot that sailed out for a throw-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Maddison was busy looking down and blaming the turf, England fans took to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/footyinsider247\">X<\/a>, formerly known as Twitter, to mock the midfielder for his effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some fans were able to see the funny side of Maddison&#8217;s shot and were quick to poke fun at the midfielder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If anyone has a ball land in the garden just know it was James Maddison\u2019s shot. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Hx8gVUtlCs\">pic.twitter.com\/Hx8gVUtlCs<\/a><\/p>&mdash;
