Gabby Agbonlahor<\/strong> has claimed Emile Smith Rowe would only be a “squad player” if he were to join Newcastle United.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider<\/strong>, insisted he would have to fight “outstanding” midfielder Joe Willock for a starting role at St James’ Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Northern Echo<\/a> (12 October), Newcastle transfer chiefs have discussed a potential move for Smith Rowe in the January window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is claimed that the midfielder’s lack of game time at Arsenal could open the door to a transfer in the mid-season window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smith Rowe has made just six appearances for the Gunners this term, totalling 135 minutes of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The England international, who is under contract at the Emirates Stadium until June 2026, failed to start a single game for Mikel Arteta’s side last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agbonlahor told Football Insider<\/strong>\u2019s Ewan Kingsbury: \u201cI think he\u2019s at the level, definitely.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe can be a good squad player for Newcastle.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut that\u2019s the problem. He\u2019d be leaving Arsenal for another club where he isn\u2019t going to start.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s not forget, Newcastle have got Willock coming back in that position. He was brilliant last season and has been completely forgotten about by everyone.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve also got Guimaraes in that area.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf he came to Newcastle, he\u2019d have to fight for a position. It\u2019s not going to be guaranteed.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think he has more chance of playing at Newcastle, though. Arteta just doesn\u2019t seem to fancy him, for whatever reason.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
