Ref Watch (posted to X by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/footballdaily\/status\/1711332402277015942\">Football Daily<\/a>, 9 October), Gallagher claimed referee Rob Jones was right to wave away Ollie Watkins&#8217; protests after contact from Wolves&#8217; Matt Doherty inside the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He suggested there was not enough contact to prevent Watkins from unleashing a strike on goal &#8211; as his effort hit the side netting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f \u201cThe referee thinks it\u2019s not enough contact to put him down like that.\u201d<br><br>Dermot Gallagher on Matt Doherty\u2019s push on Ollie Watkins which didn\u2019t result in a penalty for Aston Villa against Wolves. \ud83d\udcad <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/W9Sl2ALKnP\">pic.twitter.com\/W9Sl2ALKnP<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Football Daily (@footballdaily) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/footballdaily\/status\/1711332402277015942?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 9, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>VAR analysed the incident and found no clear and obvious error, a decision which Gallagher also agreed with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellow panel member and ex-Premier League defender Stephen Warnock disagreed, claiming Doherty had committed a &#8220;clear&#8221; foul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: &#8220;How the referee doesn&#8217;t pick up on that is beyond me.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident was just one of several in a lively Midlands derby, which ended 1-1 after goals from Hwang-hee Chan and Pau Torres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mario Lemina of Wolves was also dismissed in injury time after being shown a second yellow card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doherty has since spoken out on the penalty shout, taking to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattdoherty20\/status\/1711450898365292721\">X<\/a> (9 October) to echo Gallagher&#8217;s claims and insist it was &#8220;never&#8221; a spot-kick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His ex-teammate, Eric Dier, has also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ericdier\/status\/1711626770019946661\">weighed<\/a> in to claim the wrong decision was made in a cheeky jibe &#8211;
