Aston Villa can be a ‘disruptor’ to the Premier League’s big six after their \u00a3100million redevelopment of Villa Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider <\/strong>about the importance of Villa expanding their stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Birmingham-based side got the green light for the redesign<\/a> of their Villa Park expansion last Monday (2 October).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is expected to cost around \u00a3100million and will expand the stadium capacity to 50,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As revealed by Football Insider<\/strong>, Villa’s matchday revenue is set to grow to over \u00a335million per season once the expansion is completed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Villa posted matchday revenue of  \u00a316million in their latest 2021\/22 accounts<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maguire believes the boost to revenue will help Villa close the gap to the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’, with Man City their closest rival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s absolutely essential<\/em>,” Maguire told Football Insider’s <\/strong>Sean Fisher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If Aston Villa want to establish themselves as a disruptor to the Big Six, then they need to be able to pay wages that are competitive.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It looks as if the Premier League will adopt some form of cost control measure, which is linked to wages and revenue.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In order to maximise that, clubs have got to look at all revenue streams.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Therefore, extending or improving Villa Park so that it can move from \u00a320million in matchday income to close the gap to Manchester City\u2019s \u00a355million – which is the lowest of the \u2018Big Six\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Manchester United and Spurs are at around \u00a3120million and Arsenal will exceed \u00a3100million this season in the Champions League.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Villa don’t want to start the season effectively \u00a380 or \u00a390million behind the people they want to chase down.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n
