Gabby Agbonlahor<\/strong> has suggested the delay<\/strong> in tying Ollie Watkins down to a new Aston Villa contract could come down to finances.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider<\/strong>, urged his old side to reach an agreement with the 27-year-old as “the likes of Arsenal would love to have him”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watkins scored a hattrick and bagged two assists as Aston Villa ran out 6-1 winners against Brighton on Saturday (30 September), but his contract situation remains unresolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Football Insider <\/strong>revealed last week (25 September) that the club are keen to reward their talisman with a bumper new deal.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His current terms are set to expire in June 2025, and the player has been coy about his future – claiming<\/a> he will let his “football do the talking”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources have also told Football Insider <\/strong>(27 September) that multiple clubs are monitoring Watkins\u2019 situation at Aston Villa as his contract runs down.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The England international has notched seven goals and three assists in all competitions so far this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agbonlahor told Football Insider<\/strong>\u2019s Ewan Kingsbury: \u201cIt might be finances, the reason for the delay.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe might feel he deserves a certain amount, he might feel unhappy with what Villa are offering.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot that goes into the contract negotiations. This could be his last big contract at his age, you don\u2019t know.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI do think that Villa need to get it sorted because he\u2019d be worth every penny. He\u2019s a top striker.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s reliable, and you know he\u2019s always going to come up with the goods.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s a negotiation and I\u2019m sure they\u2019ll come to the right decision. The club know there will be many takers for a player like Watkins if there\u2019s no agreement.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
