Derby County have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland midfielder Elliot Embleton<\/a> on season-long loan,\u00a0sources have told Football Insider.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is understood that the 24-year-old is currently traveling to the Midlands for a medical and to put pen to paper on a deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embleton is set to become Derby’s second loan signing of the season after the Rams also brought in Arsenal starlet Tyreece John-Jules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Derby have made a strong start to their 2023\/24 campaign, winning three of their opening five league fixtures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rams manager Paul Warne has so far stuck with a midfield trio of Liam Thompson, Conor Hourihane and Korey Smith for the opening weeks of the League One season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embleton is yet to appear for Sunderland this season after starting the campaign with an ankle injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He returned last weekend to feature on the bench for the Black Cats in their 0-0 draw with Coventry City, but remained an unused substitute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embleton made 24 appearances across all competitions for Sunderland last season, scoring and assisting twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was mostly deployed as a central midfielder but also spent stints as a striker due to the club’s injury crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embleton has spent his entire career at the Stadium of Light after breaking through to the first team from Sunderland’s academy in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has made a total of 92 appearances for the North East club in all competitions, scoring 10 and assisting 11 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
